Passing of Former DFT President Virginia Cantrell

DFT Members,
We are saddened to report the passing of former DFT President Virginia Cantrell. Virginia served as President of DFT from 2007-2009. We ask that all members please keep her family and loved ones uplifted in prayer. As we learn of funeral arrangements we will share with the membership.

WHAT'S NEW: Detroit Federation of Teachers Stands in Solidarity with United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA)

On Monday, January 14 we are encouraging all members to stand in solidarity with United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) as they walk the picket line by wearing red -- #RedForEd. Our brothers and sisters in UTLA are striking for smaller class sizes and smaller case loads; more counselors, more nurses, and other key personnel to help support students; and fair and competitive wages. UTLA members work hard and are battling against a millionaire superintendent who doesn't understand the needs of public schools, the students and educators.

WHAT'S NEW: Compensation information

All DFT members:

On Friday, December 21, 2018, all members are scheduled to receive their regular pay check.

Additionally, bonus payments for members at the top of their perspective salary schedules shall receive $1,373.60.

We have been informed that the district is also planning to pay for first semester missed preps.
