Join us for a book study on The PD Book: 7 Habits that Transform Professional Development, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. EDT, beginning Oct. 15.
In The PD Book, bestselling authors Elena Aguilar and Lori Cohen offer seven habits and a wealth of practical tools that help you transform professional development/learning. Join AFT national trainer Kimberly Skukalek in a series of Zoom sessions to learn how to inspire adult learners, the importance of having clear purpose, and how to navigate power dynamics in a group. Through facilitated collective discussion, you will gain insight into fine-tuning ways to plan professional development/learning that allows you to attend to details and be a responsive facilitator, while also exhibiting Learning Forward’s Standards of Professional Learning.
Book Study Goals:
- Re-envision professional development/learning as a transformative learning experience for all;
- Understand current adult learning research;
- Build conditions for transformative learning; and
- Intentionally design learning experiences.
Session dates (6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Eastern time):

- Oct. 29
- Nov. 12
- Nov. 19
- Dec. 3
Each session will focus on a different chapter of the book. Participants will:
- Attend all five sessions;
- Receive a copy of the book by mail prior to the Oct. 29 session;
- Read two or three chapters prior to each subsequent session, and complete and submit independent reflections; and
- Receive a certificate for 15 hours of professional development credit after the conclusion of the book study.
