Public Employees Under Attack

Public Employees have recently been the attention of attacks in the media for, among other things, being primarily responsible for the reasons states are running such high deficits.  The AFT has done a great job of addressing many of the myths being curculated in the media.

Among some of the facts regarding public sector employees:

  • the average defined benefit package is around $22,000
  • 5 million public sector employees are not eligible for Social Security
  • Many state governments have failed to make their contributions to the retirement systems of their employees

The scapegoating of public sector employees will most likely continue but the case must be made that Wall Street's reckless behavior, the stagnent ecnomy and inefficent tax policies have been the primary reasons why states are facing huge deficits.  Attacking public sector employes is a political fight for those who choose to fight it, not an economic solution.

Happy Holidays

The GFCCE would like to wish everyone a wonderful holiday season.  We raised over $200 at the bowl-a-rama wth Bayside Church in Galt to help local community families who have family members serving in the military somewhere abroad this holiday season.

We hope your New Year is filled with health and happiness.

Members Vote to Ratify New Contract (Dec. 21, 2010)

Our members voted yesterday to ratify our tentative agreement with Adams for a union contract.

“I’m proud of what we accomplished,” said Vice-President Rachel Hoobing. “While we did not get everything we wanted, the agreement is a major step forward for us.”

Union Leadership

The executive board is elected by the members of the local union, or appointed by the elected members. The job of the Executive Board is to support Union Members by following the language of the contract.
