07/02/14 ELECTION CHAIR UPDATE

On Wednesday July 2, 2014, the BCFPE Elections Committee met and to began the process for your 2014 Officer and Delegate Elections. Josette George from The Department of Corrections has been named the Election Committee chair.  Please be on the lookout for more updates from your Election Committee. 

Remember, this will be a mail-in ballot, so please make sure your address is up-to-date. Email Angie Ardis at aardis@aftmd.org with address corrections.

4th Grade Colonial Fair and Ball

Are you in need of a new wig? Has your horse thrown a shoe? Perhaps your goodwife would like to order a new gown for the ball. Allow any one of the fine 18th century tradesmen and women of the Bennett fourth grade to fill your order! Each one eagerly set up shop, or shall we say “shoppe” on May 15th under the sign of the white tent! It was an exciting day when well over one hundred students greeted an amazing crowd of enthusiastic visitors.

"Music In Our Schools Month"

The Bennett instrumental music department celebrated “Music in our Schools Month” this past March by raising more than $1565 for local food pantries.  Twenty one students from the 4th-6th grade band and orchestra kept logs of their practice time for the month of March.  They obtained sponsors for each minute that they practiced and collected the donations at the end of the month.   The money collected was divided between three local food pantries that serve our school community:  Family of Woodstock; the Phoenicia Food Pantry; and the food pantry located at the Olive Bridge Unite

MCEA Picnic at Salisbury University

On Wednesday, June 10th from 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. In Seagull Square at Salisbury University MCEA held a lunchtime event for all of the eligible bargaining unit non-exempt employees.  The event was a great success and enjoyed by all in attendance.

Professional Negotiations Committee (PNC) update

Dear Colleagues,
I wanted to provide you with a Professional Negotiations Committee (PNC) update.
 
The Teachers' PNC has met countless times since January in order to reach a fair successor agreement. We have another meeting scheduled for next week and continue to work diligently to negotiate, in good faith, a successor agreement before the end of the school year.
 

Survey: schools aren’t ready for online testing

(Baton Rouge – June 12, 2014) A large majority of teachers responding to a statewide survey say their schools don’t have the technology required for the online tests that are coming with the Common Core State Standards. They also say their students lack the computer skills necessary to succeed on the tests.
