We have agreed to a contract! Below you will find a summary of the meeting on 3/29/17. You will also find a link to the Memorandum of Agreement(MOA) that was signed with the hospital. The day to vote, Ratification Day, will be Wednesday, April 5th 2017 6am to 8:30pm at the Union Office, Danbury Executive Tower, 30 Main Street, Ste 202,Danbury, CT 06810. Please take the time to review and then come and vote on the 5th.

WHAT'S NEW: Retirement Reminder for DFT Represented Employees

Please remember that eligible employees who retire effective July 1, 2017 or August 1, 2017 and whose irrevocable Separation from Service forms are submitted to the District's Human Resources Office (Fisher Building, 10th Floor) no later than May 1, 2017, will be paid $45.00 for each unused sick day in their sick bank up to one hundred (100) days, and $65.00 for each unused sick day in their sick bank for day one hundred and one (101) to two hundred (200) for a maximum payout of $11,000. Payout of sick time upon retirement does not include a payout from the catastrophe bank.

Defined Contribution Plans Just Don't Add Up

The Maryland Senate passed SB540, creating a study of alternatives to the current defined benefit pension system.  Any alternative that drains resources from the pension system will be harmful for the state’s economy, taxpayers and state employees.  Your delegates need to hear from you that these priorities just don’t add up.

Vouchers, EITC, ESAs don't help students

AFT Pennsylvania opposes taxpayer-funded school vouchers, education scholarship tax credits (Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) programs), which are back-door vouchers that use tax breaks to subsidize private and parochial schools. Vouchers represent a false hope for a few children, while most vouchers/scholarships are used by students already attending private schools. Vouchers do not deliver better outcomes for students and leave fewer resources for public school programs that are proven to work.

AFT-NH Legislative Bulletin, 2017-11

After concluding business in a rush back on March 10, the NH House reconvened this past Thursday for a short session.  The most notable action of the day concerned HB 647, the so-called voucher bill for children with disabilities.  The bill had previously passed the House on policy grounds, but on Thursday, came to the floor with a strong, bi-partisan recommendation of “Inexpedient to Legislate” from the Finance Committee.  Nevertheless, in what looks to have been a party-line vote (it was not a roll-call but a division vote, meaning only the totals are recorded, not individual votes) the bill was tabled rather than killed.  The motion to table came from Republican leader Dick Hinch, who asked the House to table on grounds that voting to kill the bill would prejudice the fate of SB 193, the broader, full-scale education voucher bill.  With a vote of 193-161 (closely resembling party numbers in the House) HB 647 was tabled.  The bill itself is essentially dead for 2017 but can be revived in 2018, and may also make an appearance in the 2018-19 budget bill still under construction by the House Finance Committee.
