LFT's 53rd Annual Convention

The Louisiana Federation of Teachers' 53rd Annual Convention will be held on November 18-20 at the Sheveport Convention Center in Shreveport.

 

Return to Local Control Celebration

On Wednesday, September 13th, at 3:30 pm sharp, in front of Newark City Hall, Mayor Baraka will hold a press conference, open to the public, celebrating the return of local control to the Newark Public Schools after 22 years of state control. AFT National President Randi Weingarten will be among the speakers. The Weequahic High School band will play at 3:15 pm. Please come out to this very special event. So right after school do a drive through; lights on, horns honking, etc.

A heartless assault

President Trump just launched a heartless assault on young immigrants and on our communities.
 
By announcing his plan to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, he’s upending the lives—and the dreams—of more than 850,000 young people. And for what? To stoke resentment and fear?

MATC Local 212 condemns DACA termination as an attack on American values

The American Federation of Teachers Local 212 at Milwaukee Area Technical College responded to President Trump’s decision to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that protects from deportation more than 800,000 young, undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children.

Once more, we who are people of good will must resist the xenophobic policies of the President of the United States. His decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is President Trump doubling down on bad campaign rhetoric and turning it into harmful public policy. The nearly one million young people that this will affect nationwide are our friends, neighbors, colleagues, and union sisters and brothers.
