The death of our union sister Trina Cunningham, deeply affected everyone at the City Union of Baltimore. President Antoinette Ryan-Johnson, on behalf of the union, has been in constant communication with Trina’s family and they have joined with CUB to ensure justice for Trina. A huge step in ensuring justice for our dear sister is a thorough monitoring of the investigation of her death, and a prevention of any future workplace injuries or fatalities.

Maryland Professional Employees Council (MPEC) is strong at the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). To kick off the month of August, the union hosted a Barbeque Social for members to learn more about the union and enjoy delicious BBQ during their lunch break. Given the great member density at the worksite, turnout was very good.
STATEMENT FROM AFT-MARYLAND PRESIDENT MARIETTA ENGLISH
ON THE RECENT MASS SHOOTINGS IN TEXAS AND OHIO
Over the weekend, the nation once again witnessed violence in its worst form: mass shootings that took the lives of nearly 30 people in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio. These shootings are again abhorrent and represent the worst in human behavior. They demonstrate that too many Americans use violence as the language with which they communicate. While we are still waiting for a motive in the Dayton shooting, we know the violence in El Paso was motivated by white supremacist xenophobia and ethnic hatred. We also know the shooter was inspired by the words and behavior of our president. White supremacist violence has long haunted many Americans and has resulted in the death of too many black and brown people.
We are always looking for members who step up their involvement by joining a UHP committee or by representing UHP on UConn Health or affiliate committees. Find a committee that interests you and get in touch with the appropriate contact person -- Active members grow our union's power!
