Summer 2020 Update

2020-2021 Employment Update

During the spring of this school year, schools received their projected staffing allocations for the upcoming school year. That meant gains at some schools and eliminations at others. While most Teacher based employees were able to secure positions in other locations, we still have some support employees who have not reached mutual consent.

BUDGET SHORTFALL DISCUSSION-FOLLOW- UP

In yesterday’s Budget Shortfall Town Hall discussion, 265 participants joined the call. We announced a call to action for members to a) contact the Board of Public Works b) RSVP for the rally/caravan on June 30th, and c) send a letter to Senators for the HEROES ACT.

Passing of MCEA Member Whitt Nottingham

It is with a heavy heart and saddened spirit that I share with you the passing of Whitt Nottingham, husband of Laura Nottingham and associate member of MCEA Chapter 75. Whitt passed away on June 16, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. He was 69 years old. Whitt has been ill for some time, receiving care from hospitals and rehabilitation centers but spent the majority of his time at home under the care of Laura and her daughter Laurelle with the support of home health nurses. We will miss him greatly. I know you will keep Laura and her whole family in prayer.

Funeral services have been entrusted to March Funeral Home. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the services will be televised by Zoom. I hope you all stay well, and be safe.

Linda Day,
MCEA President
