WHAT'S NEW: Invite to Youth-Led Art Exhibit This Saturday

My name is Angela, and I’m writing to you as a high school student at Cass Tech, and a member of Congress of Communities in southwest Detroit and the 482Forward Youth Organizing Collective. You’re invited to the Grand Opening of our Youth-Led Art Exhibition: Your Brain on School, taking place Saturday, February 11th 4-8pm in southwest Detroit.

It's important for you and Detroit's educators to see how students truly experience our schools. Over 200 youth from across the city have contributed to an immersive art project highlighting the impact of stress, over-surveillance and lack of resources on our mental health. But this project isn’t just about showcasing the negatives - we also want to look to the future, and what students’ hopes and dreams are for Detroit schools!

Please join us on the 11th to see how schools feel for young people in our city, and to learn about ways we think schools can be more welcoming, inclusive, and community-centered. We want to work together to ensure fair and equitable funding for Detroit’s schools, and for all schools in Michigan! We think youth should be at the forefront of decision-making in schools, so we want to hear from you about how we can be a part of the solution; as 482Forward members always say “Nothing about us, without us!
