Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) of 2009
The first phase of the AFT's Fight for America's Future campaign is a success: The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is now law and help is on the way to states reeling from the economic crisis. But this is just one part of securing a solid future for our children and our country.
Congress soon will consider the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) of 2009. This bill would level the playing field for workers by addressing problems in federal law that make it difficult for workers to organize a union. Forming a union allows workers to collectively bargain for healthcare, pensions, fair wages and better working conditions. This is the best opportunity working people have to improve their lives and the lives of their families, and the best way to strengthen and grow our nation's middle class. Strong unions help build a strong economy.
Passing EFCA will not be easy. Powerful business interests have launched a multimillion-dollar campaign to defeat it. We need to stand together and fight back.

MESSAGE FROM THE TREASURER
Dear Adjunct Faculty,
There is a sense of pride and respect in the air at Essex County College. Through your forethought and encouragement, your Executive Board persevered and after 13 long months of meetings and strategy sessions, we were able to convince the college officers that we were entitled to be recognized and appreciated. There is probably no better way to be shown an employers appreciation for the hard work we do than with a raise – and a significant one at that.
This is the first of what will be a turning point for us at Essex and for adjuncts across the state. It was wonderful meeting many of you at ratification meetings and your kind words and support helped buoy us even more.
As your treasurer, I assure you we will abide by all recognized and approved accounting procedures to ensure your dues money supports our goals and objectives.
We need one thing from you; we need for you to sign up as a full member. This will give you all the rights and privileges due a full member. Should you not sign up, as a closed shop, you will still be paying dues, but your privileges are not as encompassing. I think the difference is about $5.00 per term. Do yourself a favor so that we can continue to support you.

Our hearts go out to all the members of Local #6375 who are experiencing tough financial times during contract negotiations.
Who We Are?
NJSFT Local #6375 AFT/AFL-CIO is comprised of a small (yet mighty!) group of Professional Support Staff at Sussex County Community College in Newton, New Jersey.
What We Stand For?
We stand for fairness, respect, honesty, and integrity. We are the backbone of SCCC, the College could not open its doors without us. Your negotiating team will stand firm in negotiations until we get a fair contract. We know these are tough economic times and we are very sensitive to that, but these negotiations started over two years ago when times were good and many in the administration received huge increases. The Good News! Our enrollment is up 10% this semester and the College raised tuition in both Fall 2008 and Spring 2009, so revenue is up!
The Bottom Line?
We love SCCC, we love our jobs, we love the students. We have been a loyal, devoted staff who have consistently worked above and beyond what was asked of us. All we want is a fair contract and the right to keep providing the excellent support services that have made our College what it is today. It is our intention to bring professionalism and integrity to SCCC for a group of hard working people who deserve to be treated fairly and respectfully.

Dear Fellow Members,
We are honored to call ourselves brothers and sisters in the AFT Local #6375. Working towards resolution of our first contract has been nothing less than challenging. We take strength from knowing that you have all walked a mile in our ‘negotiating shoes’ and that we are not alone. We thank you for your past support and ask that you continue to support us by attending negotiating sessions which are on Monday nights at 5:00 pm in the Dining Room. Your presence makes a difference, it sends a strong message of unity!
