NTU Update - January 21, 2016
Colleagues,
1) Quasi-Administrators – In many schools, we have been getting reports that staff, including NTU members, are being asked to serve as quasi-administrators. It is vital to remember that ONLY administrators should be doing observations and evaluations.
Not only is this illegal, it is just another example of the district trying to break unions. They laid off many administrators, including department chairs, and now they are trying to use other staff to fill those vital roles.
The governor's $42 billion Maryland State spending budget has been unveiled, and it includes a step increase for State Employees without the cuts to overtime or sick leave rights that he originally proposed. This is a big win for union members, who have fought hard for this increase.
Unit G and E employees can save money in 2016 and 2017, thanks in part to negotiations held between the State of Maryland and representatives from MPEC and AFT Healthcare-Maryland.
